Electrical PAT Testing in Uxbridge, Bracknell, Maidenhead
and the Surrounding Areas

There are several reasons why you may require electrical PAT testing. Usually, the local emergency electricians at RBE Electrical Ltd perform this service for landlords and business owners. We also help homeowners in Bracknell, Farnborough, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, Uxbridge, and the surrounding areas who may have concerns about electrical appliances and want them double-checked for peace of mind.

Regardless of the reason, we are on hand to offer a professional electrical testing service with minimal fuss and reliable results. Where required, we can provide any necessary repairs or upgrades, including rewires.

Portable Appliance Testing

PAT stands for Portable Appliance Testing and refers to the routine inspection of electrical appliances to ensure they are in good working order. Periodic PAT tests prevent electrical accidents, improving safety in the home or workplace.

Electrical PAT testing involves a visual inspection as well as a more thorough check with specialist equipment. Some things our local emergency electricians check include earth continuity, lead polarity and insulation resistance.

The items we test include:

  • Portable Appliances – Vacuum Cleaners, Toasters, Kettles etc

  • Moveable Appliances – Electric Fans, Microwaves etc

  • Handheld Appliances – Hairdryers, Electric Drills etc

  • Cables and Chargers – Extension Leads, IEC Leads etc

  • IT Appliances – Monitors, PCs, Printers, Laptops etc

  • Fixed Appliances – Cookers, Storage Heaters, Hand Dryers etc

  • Stationary Appliances – Fridges, Washing Machines etc

While PAT testing is not a legal requirement, it is an effective way for employers to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It also benefits homeowners and landlords who want to maximise safety within their properties.

Full System Testing

Our local emergency electricians can also test full electrical systems. A visual inspection will help ascertain whether any outlets, switches, lighting systems or consumer boards need replacing or moving.

Our visual review will be accompanied by an official Visual Inspection Report (VIR), which will highlight any observations and recommendations we’ve provided during the inspection.

Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

More in-depth than our visual inspection, this test requires your system to be switched on and off at various stages, so your home or work routine will be temporarily disrupted.

Going through each electrical circuit within the property allows us to locate hidden faults that would have otherwise been overlooked. From here, we can determine whether the entire system is in good working order or if you should consider a rewire.

We can combine a domestic EICR or commercial EICR test with electrical PAT testing for a thorough inspection.

EICRs are beneficial for our clients who are considering renting out or selling their properties, as a positive report will attract more tenants or buyers.

RBE Electrical advised having Electrical Installation Condition Reports carried out after a change of occupancy or, for private properties, every ten years. This should be reduced to every five years for rented accommodations.

Electrical testing takes about an hour for standard domestic properties in Bracknell, Farnborough, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, and Uxbridge. Commercial or industrial premises will, of course, take longer.
